Demonstrate various ways to prewrite:
-Including but not limited to: brainstorming, webbing, lists, charts, graphic organizers
Successfully complete the Prewriting process

Description of Specific Learning Activity:
The students will have already completed a brief overview of the writing process. They should know the first step is prewriting. They will then begin discussing what takes place during the prewriting step. Students will work in small groups or individually to come up with various ways to prewrite. Some of these methods may include brainstorming, webbing, creating lists or charts, and using graphic organizers. As a whole, the class will then begin discussing these different methods. The class will demonstrate the various methods.
In groups of 2-3 students will be asked to create a concept map using kidspiration of a track their cartoon could take. This map should include ideas of what the main idea will be, as well as specifics that they want included in their cartoon.

Rationale for Tool(s) use:
I chose to use kidspiration because it is very kid friendly and will help students to hopefully get more excited about creating a simple concept map. Students will need to create and upload these concept maps to a word document which can then be printed out and handed in for teacher review.
